Abstract

The article puts forth a socio-historical analysis of the obști devălmașe (Romanian forms of collective, joint property) in two villages from the Putna Valley, namely Păulești and Hăulișca. The study is structured into three parts: the obște before 1900, the obște between 1900-1948, the communist period and the one after the retrocession of woodlands and pastures as according to the Lupu 1 Law of January the 1st 2000. During the aforementioned historical periods of time, the principles of functioning of the obște institution are described, as well as the changes occurring in its structure. In addition, the study is focused also on the measurement of the feeling of collective property in joint severalty.
